Nordic Pocket Saw Lineworker Insulated Throwing Saw 100 kV
The Nordic Pocket Saw Lineworker is a specialized, hand-operated throw saw kit developed for the safe and controlled cutting of branches and trees at a great distance from the ground. The system is specifically designed for work in the vicinity of live electrical installations, such as medium- and high-voltage power lines. With a total reach of up to 61 meters (using the included 20- and 40-meter ropes and the saw chain) and a total weight of 1,610 grams, this kit enables users to perform high-risk cutting operations without entering the danger zone directly.
At the heart of the Lineworker are the high-quality insulating Dyneema ropes: a 20-meter yellow rope and a 40-meter red rope. These ropes have been officially tested in accordance with IEC 62192:2009 (the international standard for insulating ropes used in work on or near live installations). In addition, the ropes have been independently electrically tested at a test voltage of 100 kV AC. The ropes successfully passed these tests under dry, wet, and rainy conditions, ensuring maximum electrical safety during operational use.
The saw consists of a 103 cm long, double-sided saw chain made of hardened carbon steel, equipped with 28 teeth per side (56 cutting elements in total). The teeth are arranged in a bidirectional pattern, allowing the chain to cut through wood during both the forward and backward strokes. This enables a fast, steady cut without requiring a motor, fuel, or battery power. The saw chain can be easily maintained using a standard 4 mm round chainsaw file and chain oil.
The Lineworker set comes fully equipped with:
- 1x Insulated Dyneema rope, 40 meters (red, certified for 100 kV AC in accordance with IEC 62192:2009)
- 1x Insulated Dyneema rope, 20 meters (yellow, certified for 100 kV AC in accordance with IEC 62192:2009)
- 1x Double-sided carbon steel saw chain (103 cm, 28 teeth per side)
- 1x Throw bag for precise placement over branches
- 2x Nylon handles with carabiners
- 2x Screw-lock carabiners (Note: for saw connections only; not suitable for climbing)
- 1x M6 wrench for securing and removing the screw-lock carabiners
- 1x Durable storage sheath for the saw chain
- 1x Foldable storage bag for the entire system
The Nordic Pocket Saw Lineworker comes with a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty.
Benefits for the Target Audience
- Maximum electrical safety: Certified according to IEC 62192:2009 and tested up to 100 kV AC under dry, wet, and rainy weather conditions.
- Safe operation from the ground: Allows for the cutting and removal of hazardous branches at a safe distance from high-voltage power lines, without the need to work directly in trees or use aerial work platforms.
Double-acting saw chain: 28 teeth on both sides provide effective cutting power in both directions, reducing fatigue and significantly shortening cutting time.
- Completely independent of electricity or fuel: Ready for immediate use during power outages, extreme weather conditions, or in remote locations where chainsaws are impractical or unsafe to use.
- Durable and low-maintenance carbon steel: The teeth retain their sharpness for a long time and can be resharpened in the field using a conventional 4 mm round file.
- Complete ready-to-use kit: Comes with a throwing weight, certified lines, handles, mounting wrench, and storage bags in a single compact package weighing 1.6 kg.
Instructions for Use and Safety
- Visual inspection: Before each use, check the condition of the insulating Dyneema ropes. The ropes must be clean and free of oil, grease, or damage to ensure proper insulation.
- Attaching the saw chain: Secure the throwing bag to the rope and throw it over the desired branch. Then attach the saw chain using the included screw-lock carabiners and tighten them securely with the M6 wrench. Hoist the saw chain upward until the teeth rest on the branch.
- Operation: Attach the nylon handles to both ends of the rope. Operate the saw from the ground with two people or by alternately pulling back and forth at a steady angle, outside the fall zone of the branch being cut.
- Maintenance and storage: Clean the saw chain of resin and sawdust after use. Apply a protective layer of chain oil to the carbon steel. Always allow the Dyneema ropes to air dry completely before storing them in the bag; store the entire unit in a dry, UV-protected location.
Who is this product suitable for?
- Line workers, energy distributors, and grid operators: To proactively keep power lines clear and quickly resolve outages near live infrastructure.
- Arborists and landscape managers: Who must safely remove dangerous overhanging branches or storm damage near power lines from the ground.
- Emergency services, fire departments, and disaster response teams: For emergency interventions following severe storms in which fallen trees or loose branches are resting on utility lines.
- Land and forest managers: Who require a reliable and portable emergency solution for the remote removal of “widowmakers” (broken branches that remain suspended in tree crowns).
The Nordic Pocket Saw Lineworker is a well-designed and certified safety system for the remote removal of trees and branches in high-risk zones. Thanks to Dyneema ropes tested up to 100 kV AC in accordance with IEC 62192:2009, the efficient 103 cm double-sided saw chain, and a 5-year warranty, this kit offers professional protection and reliable cutting power for line workers, arborists, and emergency responders.
