Benchmade Knife Company was founded in 1988. The mission has been to create a better product since its inception. Innovative, reliable, and exceptional. The initial knives they produced were primarily butterfly knives. Due to their great passion for knives and determination, Benchmade grew into a well-known brand in the world of knives.

Shortly after its founding, Benchmade began acquiring new machines, including various laser machines, for the production of their product lines. This made Benchmade the first knife manufacturer to have such technologies and machines in-house for its own productions.
With the use of non-traditional materials and modern production, Benchmade made a name for itself in the knife world. In 1991, the "Designers Series" was introduced with a range of customized contemporary and innovative models. Due to rapid growth, Benchmade had to relocate to a larger factory on a 35,000 square meter site in 1996. An additional 20,000 square meters of production space was added in 2011.
